Chalk Pastel process 9 1/2 hours in

Description

At this point, I can either say I'm done or nit pick a few things here and there. First I will say what I've done to get this far. This stage consisted of darkening the background and the man by rubbing black softly then blending it in with my finger. This was a difficult step because if there were places where the fixative was a bit thinner, I could leave ugly smudges. Once I finished with darkening everything down, I applied more fixative for what I had hoped would be my final step; adding those shafts of light coming in and hitting the woman. I halfway think that I might have made the guy too dark now, which is the opposite problem I had at the beginning when he seemed a little too close. Well, he is proving to be a frustration throughout this whole drawing no matter the stage! I guess I will think about him, and the extra highlights on the woman. At 9 1/2 hours of work on this, I've already spent a little bit more than what I usually spend on such a drawing but not much more. Even then, the thinking I've always been presented with about traditional art is that it is never truly done and you can always add more details or aspects if you really think about it.

Hi! I'm from :iconprojectcomment:'s Tagline game. My word was "lavish" and I chose this piece because of the very royal dress.

You performed the technique very very well: I love the wrinkles on her dress, and each part has got its proper shading. I really gotta congratulate to you about this, because it's really hard to make gradients with pastels. The woman also has very nice jewellery: golden fits incredibly well with lilac and purple. The background looks good as well (although I don't get what it's supposed to be) and I like the idea of darkening and blending it with special techniques.
I only wonder what are those greenish things on the left: maybe they're sun rays? If so, they should have been lighter. Another detail that is not very realistic is the man's chest, which is too round and should have a more rectangular shape.

Good job anyway! And 9+ hours on this...wow, you deserve an applause for all the effort you put on this :D :clap:Panda Emoji-01 (Clapping) [V1] Panda Emoji-08 (I love mah bed) [V1]
You don't need to go to anyone's gallery, because Tagline 212 is only composed of 3 people (how sad ;-;).
